Why Should Healthcare Professionals Attend?

Respiratory disease and mental health conditions frequently coexist in primary care, yet they are often managed in parallel rather than together. Anxiety and depression can worsen asthma and COPD outcomes, reduce inhaler adherence, and increase exacerbation risk — while chronic breathlessness itself can significantly impact psychological wellbeing.

This face-to-face study day explores the practical intersection between respiratory and mental health care. Through case-based discussion and evidence-aligned updates, delegates will gain confidence in recognising comorbidity, optimising treatment plans, and delivering more holistic, patient-centred care.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the bidirectional relationship between respiratory disease and mental health.

  • Identify red flags for uncontrolled asthma/COPD and co-existing anxiety or depression.

  • Optimise inhaler therapy while considering psychological factors affecting adherence.

  • Apply practical strategies to support holistic, integrated care in primary care settings.

Key Benefits

  • Improved confidence managing complex multimorbidity

  • Clearer escalation and referral pathways

  • Better inhaler optimisation and adherence strategies

  • Practical tools to support shared decision-making

  • CPD-accredited learning for revalidation portfolios

Additional Information

  • This is a face-to-face, CPD-accredited event.

  • Certificates of attendance will be issued for full participation.

  • Suitable for GPs, prescribing pharmacists, nurses, and wider primary care MDT members.
