Clinical Skills Workshop Overview
This clinical skills workshop has been designed to equip prescribing pharmacists, GPs, and primary care colleagues with practical, hands-on training in essential patient assessment and consultation skills. The workshop focuses on developing competence in clinical observations, examination techniques, and structured consultation, supporting all delegates in their expanding clinical roles across community pharmacy, general practice, and wider primary care settings. We are pleased to confirm strong interest and attendance from clinical prescribing pharmacists, GPs, practice nurses, and primary care colleagues from across the region. This multidisciplinary audience reflects the collaborative nature of modern primary care and ensures a rich learning environment for all delegates. This event presents a compelling opportunity for organisations operating in the cardiovascular, cardiometabolic, and obesity therapy areas. The clinical programme spans hypertension management, cardiovascular risk assessment, lipid management, and structured consultation skills — all areas of direct relevance to prescribing pharmacists and primary care clinicians managing patients with long-term cardiometabolic conditions. Sponsorship of this event offers meaningful engagement with a highly targeted clinical audience at the point of expanding their assessment and prescribing competencies. All delegates will participate in small-group, supervised clinical skills stations, rotating through four carefully designed learning environments. Each station has been selected for its direct relevance to everyday primary care practice, and delegates will receive individual feedback and competency sign-off to support their ongoing professional development and safe clinical practice.Partnership with Meducate
We are pleased to be delivering this workshop in partnership with Meducate, an established provider of clinical skills education supporting healthcare professionals across primary and community care. Meducate specialise in the delivery of practical, hands-on clinical training programmes designed to develop competence and confidence in patient assessment, clinical examination, and diagnostic skills. Meducate will be supporting the delivery of the practical clinical skills stations, working alongside CliniLink faculty and a supervising General Practitioner, ensuring delegates receive high-quality teaching, clinical supervision, and individual competency sign-off. Their involvement ensures the workshop is delivered to a robust clinical standard and aligned with real-world clinical practice.Clinical Skills Stations
Delegates — including prescribing pharmacists and primary care colleagues — will be divided into four groups and will rotate through four supervised clinical skills stations. Each station has been purposefully designed to address a key area of clinical competence directly relevant to primary care practice. Each station will provide hands-on training, individual feedback, and competency sign-off from experienced clinicians, including a General Practitioner. Station 1: Clinical Observations and NEWS2 Assessment (Cardiology focussed)
Clinical observations and early warning scoring are fundamental to safe patient assessment in primary care. The ability to accurately measure, record, and interpret vital signs — and to recognise deterioration promptly — is a core competency for all clinicians managing patients across primary care settings. This station has a particular focus on cardiovascular assessment, reflecting the high prevalence of hypertension, heart failure, and cardiovascular risk in primary care populations. Accurate manual blood pressure measurement, pulse assessment, and the interpretation of cardiovascular observations within the NEWS2 framework are essential skills for clinical prescribing pharmacists and primary care colleagues managing patients with or at risk of cardiovascular disease. This station will develop confidence and competence in performing and interpreting these essential clinical observations within a cardiovascular and wider primary care context. Delegates will develop practical skills in:- Manual blood pressure measurement
- Respiratory rate assessment
- Pulse measurement
- Oxygen saturation monitoring
- Temperature assessment
- Calculation and interpretation of NEWS2 score
- Recognising clinical deterioration and escalation requirements
- Interpreting cardiovascular observations in the context of hypertension and heart failure management
- Understanding the link between vital sign abnormalities and cardiovascular risk
Station 2: Respiratory Assessment Skills
Respiratory presentations are amongst the most common and potentially serious conditions encountered in primary care. A structured and systematic approach to respiratory assessment is essential for identifying deterioration, differentiating diagnoses, and making safe management decisions. This station will develop delegates' confidence in performing a thorough respiratory assessment within a primary care context. Delegates will develop skills in:- Conducting a structured respiratory assessment
- Recognising signs of respiratory distress
- Identifying clinical red flags
- Applying clinical reasoning to support safe management decisions
- Understanding when escalation or referral is required
Station 3: Ear, Nose and Throat Examination
ENT conditions are among the most frequently presenting complaints in primary care, yet formal training in ENT examination is often limited for prescribing pharmacists and clinical colleagues. The ability to perform a confident and accurate ENT examination — including otoscopy and throat assessment — enables better clinical decision-making, appropriate prescribing, and timely referral. This station will provide practical, hands-on training in core ENT examination techniques relevant to everyday primary care practice. Delegates will develop competence in:- Performing otoscopy and recognising normal and abnormal findings
- Examination of the ear canal and tympanic membrane
- Throat examination
- Identifying common ENT conditions
- Recognising red flags requiring referral
Station 4: Consultation Skills and Clinical Reasoning
Effective consultation skills are at the heart of high-quality primary care. As prescribing pharmacists and primary care colleagues take on increasingly complex clinical roles, the ability to conduct structured consultations, gather accurate clinical histories, reason through differential diagnoses, and communicate safely with patients is essential. This station will apply all clinical learning from the day within realistic, case-based primary care scenarios, consolidating skills across assessment, decision-making, and safety-netting. Delegates will develop competence in:- Structured consultation and history taking
- Clinical assessment and information gathering
- Clinical decision-making and differential diagnosis
- Identifying red flags
- Providing appropriate safety-netting
- Migraine
- Contraception
- Lipid Management
- Hypertension
- Weight Management
- Asthma / COPD
- ENT examination
- Headache
