This clinical skills workshop has been designed to equip prescribing pharmacists with practical, hands-on training in essential patient assessment and consultation skills. The workshop focuses on developing competence in clinical observations, examination skills, and structured consultation, supporting pharmacists in their expanding clinical roles within community pharmacy and primary care. Delegates will participate in small-group, supervised clinical skills stations and will receive individual feedback and competency sign-off to support their ongoing professional development and safe clinical practice.

Delegates will be divided into four groups and will rotate through four supervised clinical skills stations. Each station will provide hands-on training, individual feedback, and competency sign-off from experienced clinicians, including a General Practitioner.

Each delegate will be supervised and signed off once competence has been demonstrated.

  • Performing otoscopy and recognising normal and abnormal findings
  • Examination of the ear canal and tympanic membrane
  • Throat examination
  • Identifying common ENT conditions
  • Recognising red flags requiring referral
Each delegate will be supervised and signed off by clinical faculty.

Station 4: Consultation Skills and Clinical Reasoning

This station will focus on applying clinical skills within structured patient consultations using case-based scenarios. Delegates will develop competence in:
  • Structured consultation and history taking
  • Clinical assessment and information gathering
  • Clinical decision-making and differential diagnosis
  • Identifying red flags
  • Providing appropriate safety-netting
Delegates will receive individual feedback and competency sign-off from the supervising clinician.

Clinical Supervision and Competency Sign-Off

All stations will be supervised by experienced clinical faculty, including a General Practitioner. Each delegate will receive:
