Deep Dive: Diabetes Management in Primary Care – CPD Event Recap

On Saturday 12th July 2025, CliniLink proudly hosted a face-to-face CPD-accredited event titled “Deep Dive: Diabetes Management in Primary Care,” and what a fantastic day it was!
Held at the beautiful Royal Nawaab Pyramid venue in Stockport, the session welcomed over 100 healthcare professionals from across the region, including pharmacists, GPs, nurses, and other primary care team members. With a strong emphasis on practical strategies, real-world case studies, and evidence-based interventions, the day was led by none other than Professor Saqib Mahmud, who shared expert insights on tackling complex diabetes presentations in the community setting.

CPD Learning Outcomes

Led by Professor Saqib Mahmud, an expert in cardiometabolic health, the session focused on:

  • Individualised treatment planning for type 2 diabetes

  • Optimising use of GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors

  • Managing cardiovascular and renal risk in multimorbid patients

  • Interpreting HbA1c, eGFR, and lipid profiles in context

  • Translating national guidelines into day-to-day clinical practice

Attendees gained 4 CPD points, with many describing the training as immediately applicable to their current roles in general practice and community pharmacy.

Positive Delegate Feedback

The response from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Feedback highlighted the relevance of the content, the clarity of delivery, and the opportunity to network with like-minded professionals:
  • “Excellent topic and presentation, lots of learning happened for me on 12th July, really appreciate it.” Sheeba Riaz
  • “It was well organised and structured, very informative.” Kiran Dar
  • “Fantastic speaker, made complex topics accessible and engaging.” Misbah Sheraz

Networking, Collaboration and Partnership

In addition to the educational content, the event provided a valuable platform for delegates to engage with key partners. Stalls included:
  • Pharmacist Support, the profession’s independent wellbeing charity
  • Industry partners sharing updates on digital tools and treatment options
  • CliniLink’s information on upcoming CPD programmes and clinical resources

Supporting Pharmacist Wellbeing: £500 Donated to Pharmacist Support

CliniLink was proud to support Pharmacist Support, a vital independent charity providing free, confidential wellbeing services to the pharmacy workforce. A £500 donation was made as part of the event’s commitment to supporting the wider profession.
The charity’s representatives were on hand throughout the day, speaking with delegates and raising awareness about the support available to those working in high-pressure clinical environments.

Acknowledgements and Thanks

CliniLink would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sabrina, our dedicated student ambassador, who joined the team on the day to support registration and delegate engagement. We are also incredibly grateful to Misbah, a clinical pharmacist who volunteered her time to assist with coordination and ensure everything ran smoothly.
