Learning Outcomes

  • How to spot heart failure earlier in busy primary care consultations — and avoid the diagnostic delays that still affect one in three patients.
  • When and how to use NT-proBNP, how to interpret borderline results, and how to navigate rapid-access referral pathways with confidence.
  • The practical differences between HFrEF, HFmrEF and HFpEF — and why phenotype should shape your management plan.
  • How to confidently initiate and titrate the four pillars of guideline-directed medical therapy: ARNI/ACEi/ARBs, beta-blockers, MRAs and SGLT2 inhibitors.
  • How to manage common barriers to optimisation — side effects, renal function, blood pressure, and polypharmacy in frail or multimorbid patients.
  • The latest evidence on HFpEF and what it means for day-to-day prescribing decisions.
  • How to recognise red flags for decompensation and know exactly when to escalate, admit, or refer for advanced therapies.
  • How to build a structured annual heart failure review into your practice — including medicines optimisation, lifestyle support and self-management.
  • How to work more effectively across the multidisciplinary team: primary care, community heart failure nurses, pharmacy and secondary care.
  • Real-world insights from Professor Fuat's own practice, through anonymised case studies and a live Q&A.
